With the economic downturn and strong global competition, there is a clear need to prioritize application investments and to measure the cost of each application against the business value it provides.
Application Rationalization is a process that encompasses an end-to-end analysis of the application portfolios in each area, identifying the overlapping functionalities, finding applications that are not being used as well as applications that are bottlenecks in systems. Such analysis involves discovering the relationship of each asset to process, function, capability, data input and output.
Application rationalization can assist companies with the reduction of costs (get lean) so they can target their efforts on applications that bring a higher return on investment and “rationalize” applications that are generating little or no business benefit.
